The CFMEU Canberra raiders have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the 2010 NRL season, with representative centre Joel Monaghan injuring his hand in the Green Machine’s 32-24 loss to the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday night.

Monaghan will have scans today on his hand to determine the extent of the injury and could miss be unavailable for between six to eight weeks, making him unavailable until round five of the competition proper.

Despite Monaghan’s injury the Green Machine showed plenty of good signs in their opening trial of the season, scoring four tries against the Broncos including two to star five-eighth Terry Campese.

Campese was a handful all night for the Broncos while he was on the park and gave Raiders fans plenty to be happy about on Saturday night, while the Raiders forward pack led by Scott Logan and Dane Tilse caused havoc every time they marched downfield.

The match was a success for the Souths Logan Magpies as a healthy crowd at Ballymore Stadium was on hand to support the match, with a strong contingent of Raiders supporters on hand to support the team in Brisbane.

The Raiders will announce a squad to take on the Bulldogs in their second trial this weekend in Dubbo tomorrow, with a reshuffle of the backline expected to accommodate the injury to Monaghan.

The Raiders Toyota Cup team had their first run of the season on Saturday in Albury against the Melbourne Storm, with the defending premiers too strong for the Green Machine running in seven tries to two.

Despite the result Raiders Coach David Hamilton said there were plenty of positives to come out of the match, with the team getting a chance to improve ahead of the season with a trial against the Bulldogs in Sydney on Saturday.
