The Gold Coast Titans have bounced back from their heavy defeat in Round 2 to defeat the Canberra Raiders 24-12 at GIO Stadium Canberra.

Canberra put together a quality first half performance and looked firmly placed to run away with the result in the second stanza however a lack of discipline at certain stages and two late tries to Albert Kelly sealed an upset win to the Titans.

Gold Coast opened the scoring in the 15th minute after Beau Falloon crashed over from close range however the Raiders hit back in the 24th minute after Jarrod Croker pounced on a delicately placed Glen Buttriss grubber kick. The in-form centre converted his own try to give Canberra the lead.

Canberra put the disappointment of a try disallowed to Joel Edwards behind them by extending their lead through a try to Anthony Milford three minutes before half-time.

Milford showed his renowned pace by scything through a slight opening and left the Titans defenders grasping at air. Croker’s conversion entailed that the score line read 12-6 at half-time.

The Titans were able to level scores three minutes into the second stanza through a converted try to replacement hooker Paul Carter after he dummied and dived his way past Dane Tilse and Matt McIlwrick.

The momentum of the match swung several times throughout the remainder of the half and whilst the Raiders threatened the Gold Coast defensive structure on several occasions they were unable to register points.

Unfortunately ill-discipline crept into the Raiders play at certain stages and this was capitalised on by Titans Co-Captain Greg Bird when he slotted a penalty goal in the 46th minute.

Two late tries to talented Titans halfback Albert Kelly rubbed salt into the Raiders wounds.

The Raiders fortunes were hampered by the loss of Edrick Lee mid-way through the first half however there were multiple opportunities for the Green Machine to win the contest.

Ricky Stuart will put the boys through their paces at training this week and ensure that the side is back bigger and better next week.
