Erindale College have won the annual Erindale Nines tournament for the second successive year, defeating Illawarra Sports High School in the final.

Ten teams competed in this year's competition with some schools even travelling from the south coast to take on Canberra's schools.

Erindale defeated Illawarra Sports High School 15-11 in the final, whilst Erindale's second side took out the minor title by defeating Dickson College.

Canberra Raiders Development Officer Adam Kyle believes that the tournament is a great way to introduce rugby league to students who may not play on the weekend for a local club.

"The Erindale Nines is a fantastic tournament and we're very appreciative of all the cooperation that the school provides on the day as well as the participation and enthusiasm of the other schools that are competing," Kyle said.

"There was certainly plenty of talent on display throughout the day but the main purpose of the Erindale Nines is to introduce rugby league to students who haven't played the game before in the fun nine-a-side format.

"Congratulations to Erindale College for taking out the title for the second successive year and thanks to all the students, teachers and volunteers for making the day such a success.

"Hopefully we see many of the students who haven't played rugby league before running around in the local clubs within the Canberra District Rugby League in 2015."
