Canberra Raiders rising star Mitchell Barnett has re-signed with the Raiders for a further two seasons, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2017 season.

Barnett, 20, has impressed so far this year for Mounties in the NSW Cup and has been one of the leaders for them in their undefeated start to the season.

He was also named NYC Players Player in 2014 after an outstanding season for the Raiders, where he was one of the standouts amongst a host of great players.

Barnett said the Raiders had been fantastic for him as a player on and off the field and said he hoped to repay them by continuing to develop his game.

“The clubs been good to me and one of the big reasons I decided to stay,” Barnett said. “They showed faith in me so I thought I’d show some back in them by re-signing and hopefully I can keep playing good footy and take the next step in my career.”

Barnett said the feeling amongst the squad was very positive this year and he wanted to keep working hard and hopefully take the next step in his young career.

“It’s a great bunch of blokes in our NRL squad. We’re working really hard together and we’re building a good culture which I want to be a part of and that’s why I chose to stay,” he said. “I’m just looking to keep contributing to the Mounties each week and if a debut comes that’s great but I’m certainly not expecting to have it handed to me I know I have to keep working hard.”
