Mounties have overcome a resilient Wentworthville side to record an impressive 34-6 victory at Ringrose Park Wentworthville on Sunday.
The first half was a dogged affair that saw both teams muscling up in defence with Mounties turning the home side away time after time after Wenty were given five straight penalties to gift them field position.
In the 20th minute, Wenty were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and such was the ferocity of the Mounties defensive line they opted to take the conversion and they led the match 2-0.
The next 10 minutes saw the flood of penalties come the way of the home team and this led to their only try when the weight of possession told on Mounties and the home team led 6-0 after the conversion was missed.
Mounties weren't to be deterred from their task and with a minute left in the half their big forwards rolled up the field to give Jack Ahearn some room to move and he promoted the ball nicely to the right edge for Brenko Lee to glide over and make it 6-4 at the break in favour of Wenty.
The second half started much the same as the first with both teams not being able to get a start and it took and error from Wenty under their posts to advance the score with Mitch Barnett picking up the lose ball to dive over and make it 10-6 after the Cornish conversion.
Three minutes later Wenty were on the attack in the Mounties half and after creating a three on two Brenko Lee jumped in for his second try when he intercepted the last pass and sprinted 70 metres to score and make it 16-6 after a brilliant conversion by Cornish.
Mounties then got on a roll and in the 61st minute Jack Ahearn took on the line and delivered a bullet pass for Jeremy Hawkins to dive over out wide and after the conversion hit the posts, Mounties led 20-6.
On the very next set Ahearn was at it again when he delivered a perfect pass for Pat Mataele who broke the line and raced away to post a try and put Mounties in front by 24-6 after the conversion was waved away.
Just minutes later some brilliant defence from Mounties saw Wenty forced into a goal line dropout and after trying a short kick Brenko Lee and Jeremy Hawkins combined to cross out wide to give Hawkins a double and with the conversion being waved away Mounties led 28-6 with 10 minutes to play.
In the 74th minute Brenko Lee did it all by himself when caught on the last and with no room to move he kicked ahead from the 30 metre line and out sprinted the cover to regather and plant the ball under the posts for his third try and giving Cornish the easiest of conversions and Mounties led 34-6.
In the dying minutes Mounties tried for more points but the Wenty team held strong and the score remained 34-6 at the final bell.

The win in the #VBNSWCup gave the club a perfect mark for the weekend in senior grades with our #RMCup, #SydneyShield and C Grade all recording wins.
Next week all grades have the bye giving the players an opportunity to work on their injuries and do some extra training.
