Kurt Baptiste may only be on the field for a short period of time but the utility certainly has made his presence felt this season.

The former Bronco had his best game of the season two weeks ago against the Broncos in a performance that exemplified the role of a utility.

“I’ve got a little bit more menace the last few weeks which is good,” said Baptiste.

“From a team perspective it was a bit disappointing - our performance two weeks ago - but we are looking to change it this week.”

Down 24-0 against the Broncos, Ricky Stuart turned to one of his favourite ploys. The Raiders coach sent Baptiste onto the field to play in tandem with hooker, Josh Hodgson, to spark the team’s attack.

In an energetic and tenacious performance, Baptiste scored two tries to get the Raiders back into the game.

The Papua New Guinea international said that was the role he needs to play for the team.

“Whenever I get on there I’ve got to try and spark the boys up there somehow. I’ve just got to have energy when I get on there in defence and attack”.

Facing the Gold Coast this Sunday, Baptiste is wary about the abilities of the Titans’ dual hookers, Peats and Friend.

“[Nathan Peats] and Friendy (Nathan Friend) are really good in the hooker [role] there. They’re good ball players and they work well with their forwards. The Titans have a good forward pack so it’s going to be a real good job for our forwards to shape up this week”.
