The Canberra Raiders’ Holden Cup season has come to an end at the hands of the Sydney Roosters.

The Raiders were unable to trouble a dominant Roosters outfit as they were beaten 48-0 at GIO Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Tricolours got off to a perfect start, scoring within the first five minutes. Joseph Manu broke through a two-man tackle to plant the ball over the line on the western side of the ground.

Five minutes later the Bondi-based side scored a second try after a deflected kick ricocheted into the hands of Anderson who duly scored. Marschke made no mistake from the tee to give the Roosters a 12-0 lead.

Zac Woolford managed to get the Raiders back in the contest with a couple of pinpoint kicks, but basic errors allowed the Roosters to maintain the ascendency.

Grant Garvey scored a soft try next to the posts for the Roosters. The hooker sprinted from dummy half to beat his marker to add another four points.

The Sydney side continued to convert pressure into points and made the Raiders pay. Radley managed to cross the line after the Roosters moved the ball from right left to find a gap in the Raiders’ line.

Raiders’ fullback Harry Van Dartel gave the Raiders a chance with a quick tap and run from the Raiders 20-meter line. Canberra made easy meters upfield but Zeik Foster’s grubber towards the in goal was too deep.

The Roosters had one more chance before half time, but an excellent one on one tackle by Van Dartel kept the score at 22-0.

Jarrad Anderson capped off a spectacular Sydney Roosters try early in the second half. Sydney winger Bernard Lewis ran onto a well-directed high ball before passing to Anderson who was backing up on the inside.

Cooper scored another try for the Roosters after an inside ball from Butcher sent the fullback through.

The Roosters continued their fine form after Boland scored under the posts. Marschke scored an easy conversion to make the score 38-0.

Tupouniua barged his way past four defenders to score the Roosters eighth unanswered try.

Tuivasa-Sheck put the icing on the cake for the Roosters by scoring in the corner.

Marschke’s sideline conversion was unsuccessful, but it mattered little with Rooster’s prevailing 48-0.

Roosters 48 (Tries: Manu, Anderson 2, Garvey, Radley, Cooper, Boland, Tuivasa-Sheck; Conversions: Marschke 6/9) defeated Raiders 0
