Best Match of the Season

Round 22 | Raiders 30 defeated Sharks 14

Hodgson's first half against the Sharks will go down as one of the most dominant performances by any player in 2016. Hodgson finished the match with a massive 125 running metres, 1 linebreak, 40 tackles and a stunning try assist to Jordan Rapana.

Summary

Josh Hodgson took his game to a new level in 2016, establishing himself as one of the best and most influential players in the NRL.

After leading England to a 2-1 series victory over New Zealand to finish 2015, Hodgson arrived in Canberra in December ready for his second season in the NRL.

The new year got off to a great start for Raiders fans when Hodgson signed a contract extension, which saw him commit to the Raiders until the end of 2018.

A pair of man of the match performances in the first three games set the tone for the rest of Hodgson's season, as he jumped to the top of the Dally M leaderboard and got the Raiders off to a flying start.

Hodgson pumped out 80 minute performances for most of the season, moving to more of a floating role in the middle when Kurt Baptiste would come on the field in the later stages of matches.

Two of Hodgson's best performances of the year came in the wins over the Sharks and Storm in Round 22 and 23. The win over the Storm in particular showed that Hodgson could mix it with the game's best Hooker in Cameron Smith.

The Raiders finals fortunes took a dramatic twist early in the second half of the qualifying final against the Sharks when Hodgson was forced off the field with an ankle injury. The injury looked almost certain to rule Hodgson out of the semi-final against the Panthers, but he made a miraculous recovery and helped lead the Raiders to a dramatic win.

While he was overtaken in the Dally M voting midway through the season, Hodgson did take home the Raiders Meninga Medal along with Josh Papalii.

Alongside teammate Elliott Whitehead, Hodgson is currently taking part in the Four Nations over in England, and he will be a key figure if England has any chance of upsetting Australia or New Zealand. The battles between Hodgson, Isaac Luke and Smith will be key talking points throughout the tournament.

A true professional on and off the field, look out for Hodgson to further improve his game ahead of what is shaping up to be a massive 2017 campaign.
