Group Nine Club Young Cherrypickers are helping the Raiders expand their regional reach and inspire the next generation of rugby league players, by incorporating the Raiders logo on their playing apparel.

The initiative came from the Young junior rugby league, with former President of Young junior rugby league Nick Hall wanting the participants of the competition to identify with the Raiders and show some pride in their uniform.

The Raiders pride themselves on being the NRL’s regional club, with strong ties to the surrounding regions including the Riverina, South West Slopes, Central West, Monaro and South Coast regions.

Young rugby league also hosts an inter-town competition and the Raiders brand is also now associated with one of the teams which are named after NRL clubs.

Nick Hall is now the Chairman of the Group 9 junior rugby league and said the linkage to the Raiders was also in place to help progress the pathways of players who may one day have the opportunity to play for the Raiders.

“We hope to continue and improve our relationship with the mighty Raiders and continue to send promising kids their way to follow their dreams,” Mr Hall said. “I know there are presently a handful of good juniors there training hard.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said it was fantastic to see a regional club embracing the Raiders and hoped to see more clubs in the region follow their footsteps.

“We thank Young rugby league for their initiative in supporting the Raiders and we have a proud history of players coming into our system from Young,” Furner said. “I know our junior development program is working with regional areas to set up rugby league academies as a pathway for the next generation of talent coming from country areas which is great to see.”
