The Canberra Raiders have agreed to release Edrick Lee from the final year of his contract, to take up a new deal with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

Lee joined the Raiders as an 18 year old, before making his first-grade debut in 2012. In five seasons of first-grade with the Raiders, Lee played 70 games and scored 34 tries.

Raiders CEO Don Furner said it was a tough decision for the club to release Lee from the final year of his deal.

"With a restricting salary cap and a large amount of players coming off contract we've been forced to make a tough and sad decision  to release Edrick, in order to be able to re-sign a large group of our NRL squad for the future," Furner said. "Edrick is a special player who began his career as a junior of the club and he'll always be welcome back at the Raiders."

The Raiders would like to wish Lee all the best for the future, and thank him for his efforts on and off the field during his time with the club.
