As the Raiders prepare to take on the Sydney Roosters this Sunday afternoon at GIO Stadium, we take a look at five reasons why you wouldn't want to miss this match.
Celebrating Croker’s 200th appearance
It’s not every day your club captain becomes the fourth youngest player in NRL history to play 200 NRL games. Unfortunately for Canberra based fans, that day happened when we were playing in Sydney.
Although the players were able to celebrate Croker’s milestone in style against the Eels, Sunday gives Canberra Raiders fans a chance to celebrate the achievement at home in nation’s capital.
Our skipper made his debut and played his 100th match against the Roosters, so hopefully Croker can create more happy memories against the Bondi based club this weekend.
Ricky Stuart Foundation Jersey
Our major sponsor Huawei have been generous enough to allow us to have The Ricky Stuart Foundation on the front of our jersey’s this week to help raise awareness for Autism Wellbeing.
The player worn jerseys will be available for auction and there will be other ways in which you can donate to The Ricky Stuart Foundation on the day.
Sunday afternoon footy
Sunday afternoons and NRL footy are a match made in heaven and this weekend will mark the second time this season that GIO Stadium has held such a match.
The last time it happened? A 46-6 win against the Wests Tigers in Round 3. While it is unlikely to be such a big score line this time around, with dry weather forecast for this weekend, should be plenty of slick ball movement on display.
Running on the field after the game
Has your child ever dreamt of kicking the winning field goal on GIO Stadium? If they haven’t, you probably have.
Sunday afternoon is the chance for you and your kids to live out those dreams because fans will be allowed on to the field at the end of the NRL match.
An added bonus is that the players will be available for a signing session at Raiders Weston between 8pm-9pm.
Chance to secure back to back wins
After a tough few weeks of football, we have the chance for back to back wins when we take on the Roosters. Although the Roosters are missing five players due to State of Origin duties, the Roosters are still a formidable outfit and are sitting fourth on the ladder.
However, our win last week means we sit inside the top eight and a first home game in over a month will be an added boost.
