Two Canberra Raiders members will be rewarded with once in a lifetime game day experiences at the Raiders first home game of 2018, after they came closest to predicting the outcome of the Austbrokers Canberra Season Predictor competition.

$500,000 was up for grabs for members in 2017 thanks to Austbrokers Canberra, if members could predict the Raiders final for and against points tallies and tries for and against during the regular season.

Raiders member Grant Wilson came closest to the win, falling just four points shy of the mark for the Raiders total points of 558 and just one off the final away total. He was also only one try short of selecting the Raiders final tries tally of 95 and just six away from the total tries against. As closest member to the mark, he will have the honour of being the Raiders first Viking Ambassador of the 2018 season and will get to blow the Raiders Viking Horn to start the first Viking Clap of 2018.

Mr Wilson said he didn’t realise he was so close to the mark and was excited to have the chance to be Viking Ambassador next year.

“I had no idea I was so close at the end, so to win this prize is a huge bonus,” Mr Wilson said. “It will make the first home game even more exciting. Even though I didn’t get the cash, it’s still a great prize and another way being a member is the best way to support the team.”

In second place was Raiders member Craig Scarlett, who was also close to the final totals during the season and was successful in selecting the exact number of tries scored by away teams of 84. As second closest to the final totals he will be awarded the 18th Raider experience for the first home game of 2018, where he’ll get the opportunity to take part in a behind the scenes game day experience.

Mr Scarlett was also excited to learn he was so close and said the prize of 18th Raider would be something he could look forward too.

“What a great prize,” Mr Scarlett said. “I’ve never done anything like that before so it will be a unique and exciting way to watch the game.”

Raiders Commercial & Marketing Manager Jason Mathie said the competition was very close and although the $500,000 wasn’t given away, the club was excited to offer the two closest members with some wonderful prizes for their efforts in being the closet to the final total.

“We were able to offer our members the chance to share in $500,000 this season through the Season Predictor promotion and although it wasn’t awarded the club wishes to thank Austbrokers Canberra for this amazing opportunity,” Mathie said. “As a prize to recognise members, as we regularly do, we’ve decided to reward the two closest members with some unique money can’t buy experiences for next season and we thank all of the members who entered the competition in 2017.”
