Five boys from Griffith had the experience of a lifetime when former Canberra Raider Nigel Plum brought them to Raiders Headquarters as part of a trip organised for the Clontarf Foundation.

Plum, who works with the foundation, organised the boys to come to Raiders HQ and said that they were thrilled with the experience.

“They’re pretty excited,” Plum said. “For a lot of these boys, they’ve never been to a football club or shaken a footy player’s hand.”

Caleb Harris, 13, enjoyed the experience as he got taken on a tour of the club and got his Raiders cap signed by Aidan Sezer.

“I’ve liked him for a long time, he’s one of my favourite players,” Harris said. “It was good seeing all the people and seeing how they train.”

Plum will take the five boys to tonight’s Rugby League World Cup game at Canberra Stadium as part of their trip, which is a reward for their attendance and good work at school.

“The program is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys,” Plum said. “It’s a program to help these boys complete school and then help them get jobs afterwards while living a nice, happy and healthy life.

“They know how fortunate they are to get these opportunities and they are very thankful.”
