Canberra Raiders Assistant Coach Dean Pay has extended his contract with the club for a further two seasons until the end of 2018.

Pay works alongside Head Coach Ricky Stuart and fellow Assistant Coach Mick Crawley in the Raiders football Coaching structure, with a focus on the team’s defensive game.

He joins Stuart and Crawley who have also extended their deals until the end of 2018, which keeps the core of the Raiders coaching team together for another two seasons.

Pay said he was excited about the teams progress since arriving at the club with Stuart at the beginning of 2014 and said the team was improving each week in all aspects of their game.

“I came here with Ricky at the start so it’s really pleasing to see where the squad is at now. Getting another two years on the contract is exciting, and we are looking forward to the next two years,” Pay said.

“We’ve been slowly getting better at defence all the time. Last Monday night it all clicked and came together, which the boys really enjoyed. They are starting to enjoy that side of the game more.

“We’ve got three games left until the semi-finals and we are still looking to improve.”

Pay said the hard work the team had put in was starting to produce the rewards they were looking for, but stressed they still had plenty of hard work ahead if they were to maintain success.

“The boys are settled and happy off the field. We are all working hard and working in the same direction,” he said.

“We have worked hard to get to where we are. We don’t want to lose that. It’s not easy to get confidence, but it can disappear quickly. We need to stay on top of things.”
