When the Traynor family found out their son Jacob required a bone marrow transplant their life was turned upside down. Not only was Jacob set to fight the battle of his young life, he was also told by medical staff he wouldn’t be able to continue school or leave his home to visit his mates while he was undergoing treatment.
Enter Camp Quality. Without even any contact from the family the team at Camp Quality stepped in and set up Jacob’s house as his own personal movie theatre, with a giant flat screen TV, Sound System and DVD player with all favourite movies.
The gesture was life changing and helped Jacob and his family fight and win the biggest fight of his young life. Fast forward five years later and Jacob is happy, healthy and living proof of what Camp Quality can do for families.
As part of their ongoing support, Jacob and his brother Patty joined their father Bernie at the Raiders Captain’s run today at GIO Stadium, where they had the opportunity to watch the team train and meet them for a BBQ afterwards.
Bernie Traynor, who doubles as Jacob’s footy Coach, said the opportunity was just one of the many ways Camp Quality has assisted his family during what’s been a very stressful time and said their help putting a smile on his son’s face has been one of the catalysts of his continued strong recovery.
“We love the Raiders, the chance to come out here and watch them train has been fantastic and we thank the Raiders and Camp Quality for making it happen,” Bernie Traynor said. “It’s been five years since Jacob had his bone marrow transplant, he’s doing well now and he’s back playing footy for the Tuggeranong Buffaloes which he loves.”
Mr Traynor said from the moment Jacob was diagnosed Camp Quality came to the rescue and helped the family out during what was tough times.
“As soon as Jacob was diagnosed Camp Quality found out and they came around to our house with a big TV, DVD player and stack of DVD’s for Jacob, as he wasn’t able to leave the house at the time. He couldn’t go to school or hang out with his mates so they stepped up and made him feel special.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Camp Quality, they’re all about having fun and the kids getting in there and having fun and making the kids forget about their problems for a while,” he said.
