Junior Reps Round 1 Wrap

Our S.G. Ball side started their season with a big win but there wasn’t as much joy for our other two sides as the Junior Rep season kicked off over the weekend.

Harold Matthews Cup – South Sydney Rabbitohs 28 d Canberra Raiders 22

The Canberra Raiders Under 16 side went down to the South Sydney Rabbitohs 28-22 in their first game of the season.

After a slow start which saw the Rabbitohs open the scoring, the Raiders scored two quick tries courtesy of Aidan Connell and Addison Williams.

The Raiders scored a third try not long afterwards as Thomas Gaffney scored after breaking through the Rabbitohs line 30 meters out.

However, the Rabbitohs responded strongly in the second half and took the lead thanks to five unanswered tries.

The Raiders scored a late try but it wasn’t enough to claim the win.

S.G. Ball Cup – Canberra Raiders 48 d South Sydney Rabbitohs 12

The Canberra Raiders enjoyed more luck in the Under 18’s as a near-perfect first half set up a massive 48-12 win.

After scoring the first try of the game, the Raiders fell behind as the Rabbitohs scored a converted try.

However, the Raiders quickly stamped their foot on the gas as they scored a further four tries in the first half.

The Under 18’s showed no signs of complacency in the early stages of the second half as Jordan Little scored before Kristian Jensen was put over the line on the back of some good work by Harley Smith-Shields.

The Raiders added another try from close range before Ben Nanesa scored a remarkable try in the last play of the game as the prop ran 40 meters to score.

Tarsha Gale Cup – South Sydney Rabbitohs 46 d Canberra Raiders 10

The Canberra Raiders Under 18 Girls side were unable to match as dominant South Sydney outfit as they suffered a 46-10 loss.

The Rabbitohs opened the scoring off the back of a scrum before adding a second try shortly afterwards.

Emylee Hawke got the Raiders on the board with a try in the left corner to make the score 10-4 in favour of South Sydney but the Rabbitohs went on a scoring spree to take a 38-4 lead at three-quarter time.

To the Raiders credit, the side continued to battle and were rewarded with a late try when Tamika Millard scored a long-range try to make the final score 46-10 to the Rabbitohs.
