Huawei and the Canberra Raiders work together to help kids in need
Huawei Australia has reinforced its commitment to indigenous youth education by extending its partnership with the Clontarf Foundation for a further year.
The new commitment will take the partnership into a fifth year and push Huawei's overall contribution to a quarter of a million dollars since 2015.
Visiting Mt Austin High School in Wagga Wagga, Huawei Director of Corporate and Public Affairs, Jeremy Mitchell said the partnership went well beyond the financial commitment.
"The cultural exchanges between the two organisations have been uplifting and inspiring," Mr Mitchell said.
"We have taken Clontarf alumni to China to visit our futuristic R&D centres and manufacturing halls and Clontarf has hosted our board members and staff in remarkable Australian outback settings that taught us about their ancient culture and land.
"We are also supporting the Clontarf Foundation with the latest Huawei smartphones, WiFi and video conferencing equipment to better connect the staff and management."
Clontarf Foundation Chief Executive, Gerard Neesham welcomed Huawei's further commitment.
"Huawei provides important support so the Foundation can continue to educate and nurture indigenous kids. We look forward to continuing to grow the partnership."
The Clontarf vehicle for encouraging academic commitment is sport, particularly Australian Rules Football and Rugby League, and the Huawei-sponsored Canberra Raiders will take their support for the Foundation to another level in 2019.
The Raiders, Huawei and Clontarf will come together for the Round 8 NRL clash with the Penrith panthers at McDonalds Park, Wagga Wagga to raise money for the local Police Citizens Youth Club's Rise Up initiative.
Canberra Raiders CEO, Don Furner said the club was delighted to support two great organisations that do so much to educate and nurture at risk kids.
"We're thrilled to be giving back to the Riverina region that has provided us with so much of its footballing talent and supported our club so strongly over many years," Mr Furner said.
"Clontarf academy boys will help fundraise on game day and we will join with Huawei to provide inner sanctum match-day experiences for kids involved in PCYC Rise Up programs and Clontarf."
PCYC Regional Manager Riverina Zone, Brett Somerville said, the PCYC was grateful for the amazing support.
"We work hard to give kids that are doing it tough the best opportunities to get ahead and support like this vitally important."
