Canberra Raiders NRL coaching staff including Head Coach Ricky Stuart spent Monday evening at Raiders HQ, working with 50 local coaches, as part of the NRL Developments Coach the Coach night.
The local coaches had the opportunity to hear from Andrew McFadden, Brett White, Peter Marrapodi, Joel Carbone and Ricky Stuart, before taking to the field to gain some tips and techniques on getting the best out of their coaching experience.
Raiders Assistant Coach Andrew McFadden said the night was all about making sure the next generation of rugby league players are getting the best coaching available, while giving coaches the chance to learn new skills to make them better coaches.
“These are wonderful opportunities for young coaches to come in and learn some new skills to help make them better coaches,” McFadden said. “Its not every day you get to hear about coaching from a guy like Ricky Stuart who has coached for over 10 years in the NRL, as well as coaching NSW and Australia and I know the whole coaching staff enjoys giving back to local coaches.
“One of the things we look for in developing local talent are players that can come into our development squads and take easy directions from our coaches and show good fundamental skills, so it’s important that coaches at a junior level are helping them in their early years as a player.”
