Valley Dragons claim second spot

The Valley Dragons have sealed second place after defeating fellow contenders the Boomanulla Buffaloes 16-10 on Friday night at Raiders Belconnen.

The Dragons started brightly when a cross-field kick from Ahlivia Ingram found Rosaline Aumale who scored.

From there the match turned into a grind as both sides enjoyed periods of good field position but were unable to convert that into points.

A simple play from a scrum saw the Dragons double their tally as Ingram sucked in the defenders before a simple pass to Elissa Blowes saw the fullback score.

Ingram had a hattrick of try assists within the first half as Livinia Samoa ran on to a good ball to power her way over the line to make it 16-0 at the break.

The second half was a different story as the Boomanulla Buffaloes showed plenty of grit and surged back into contention.

Paris Robinson ensured that the Buffaloes opened their try scoring tally when she gathered a stray offload from Nirvana Ngan-Woo to run 50 metres and score out wide.

The Boomanulla side kept competing and reduced the deficit to six points when Madeline Burton scored off the back of an excellent wrap around play through the middle of the field.

However, the Dragons held on for the win to ensure a second placed finish. Boomanulla slip to third as a result with tough matches against Yass and Bidgee before the end of the regular season.
