The Gunning Roos had a sound season in 2020, winning four games and losing four.

Gunning were highly competitive throughout the competition, playing in many tight games.

The Roos started the season with two losses, before a 42-0 win over the Burrangong Bears in round three.

They lost by just two points to the Gordon Highlanders in round four but bounced back and won their next three games against the Tigers (14-10), Bears (50-10) and Highlanders (14-12).

Gunning lost their final round match against Bungendore 22-16, missing out on the grand final at season’s end.

Five-eighth Bayley Loughhead and hooker Thomas Johnson were the highest ranked Roos players on the George Tooke Shield Best and Fairest 2020 Leaderboard.

Season Highlight

Their 14-10 win over the Bungendore Tigers in round five.

The Gunning Roos were the only side to defeat Bungendore in the regular season.

In what was an intense game, the Roos scored three tries to the Tigers two to seal victory.

Halfback Liam Grame and centres Benjamin Dyball and Jackson Paton were the try-scorers for Gunning.

GTS Ladies League Tag

The Gunning Rooettes missed out on a place in this year’s grand final, recording three wins throughout the season.

The Rooettes battled hard in every game but often couldn’t capitalise in the big moments.

Tara McGrath-West joined the side midway through the competition, having earlier in the season played for the Wentworthville Magpies in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership competition.

Gunning kicked off their season with a 22-10 win over the Bungendore Tigerettes #2 side, before losing their next two matches against the Bungendore Tigerettes #1 side and the Burrangong Bears.

They bounced back and defeated the Tigerettes #2 in round four, but again lost their next two after that, including a tight 10-8 loss to the Tigerettes #1 side.

The Rooettes’ only other win came in round seven with a 22-4 victory over the Tigerettes #2.

Kristie McKenna and Megan Bayley finished equal third on the GTS Ladies League Tag Best and Fairest 2020 Leaderboard.

Brooke McKenna scored 18 of the 22 points, with a hat-trick and three conversions.

Her sister Kristie crossed the try-line for the other four points.
