Canberra Raiders: 40 years in the Limelight

The ACT may be small, but you wouldn’t know it by the huge number of fans coming out in full force to support their favourite rugby league team, the Canberra Raiders. Affectionately known as the 'Green Machine’ thanks to their trademark lime green jerseys, the Raiders - established in 1982 - have taken fans from the from the highs of premiership victory to the heartbreak of defeat. Over 40 years, they have become an integral part of the identity of Canberra and the region.

Off the field, the club has fostered an inclusive, family-friendly culture, spending countless hours behind the scenes supporting local children’s sport, visiting hospitals, doing charity work and partnering with small businesses. This team ethos of community and connection help underpin why the Raiders govern such fierce and devoted loyalty from the local region and beyond.

Canberra Raiders: 40 Years in the Limelight explores the history of the team, their place in the NRL and what they mean to the fans – and the city – who support them.
