Country Championships Round One Wrap

The Monaro Colts have kicked off their 2022 Country Championships campaign with both the mens and womens notching up two convincing wins over the Western Rams on Sunday afternoon.

Men's Opens

The Monaro open men’s side piled up nine tries to go out 52-16 winners over the Western Rams at Pioneer Oval on Sunday afternoon.

This is a perfect start for the Monaro side as they aim to win back-to-back premierships after taking out last year’s country championships 18-16 over the Illawarra South Coast Dragons.

Tre Holten-Williams, Joshua Baker, and Tevita Aroha-Tuinauvai all scored doubles in Sunday’s big win with Jordan Williams, Joshua Mitchell and Blake Robinson kicking a combined 8/9 with the boot.

The Colts open men’s side will host the Macarthur Wests Tigers at Kippax Playing Fields, Canberra, at 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

Women’s Opens

The Monaro open women’s side had a well-fought 28-10 victory over the Western Rams.

The Rams were slow out of the gates, when Zoe Podmore crossed for two early tries to get Monaro on the board.

Jacqueline Pele, Milika Tuinakauvadra, Krystal Blackwell and Kaitlyn Andrews followed with tries to pile up a great win to start their run towards finals.

The Monaro open women’s side will also face the Macarthur Wests Tigers at Kippax Playing Fields, Canberra, when they kick off at 2:40pm.
