NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round One Preview

The Canberra Raiders Knock on Effect NSW Cup team will kick off their season against Newtown Jets at 3:00pm on Saturday at Henson Park, Sydney.

After re-joining the competition in 2021 the side did enough to finish in seventh place after fifteen rounds, before COVID lockdowns forced the competition to be cancelled.

The team will be looking to take what they learned from last year’s campaign and turn it into success, with their eyes firmly set on a first Knock of Effect NSW Cup since 2003.

They take on a Jets team who they defeated twice last year, coming away 60-20 and 20-10 victors in the respective matches.

With a mixture of youth and experience in the team, Raiders fans can be excited not just about the prospects of Saturday’s game but also the season as a whole.

The side features plenty of NRL experience, with the likes of Jarrod Croker, Xavier Savage, Ryan Sutton, Matt Frawley and Sam Williams all named to play this weekend.

New coach Joel Carbone’s team is also filled with many young prospects, with Trey Mooney, Harry Rushton and Utuloa Asomua all potential first grade players of the future.

The Jets are coming into the season with two trials played, losing 8-4 to Mounties, before drawing 12-all with Canterbury-Bankstown on 28th February.
