Griffith to host Wheelchair Rugby League event

Wheelchair rugby league is coming to Griffith NSW this weekend, with a Come and Try day set to be held in the town.

Canberra Region Rugby League is encouraging people to bring their family and friends to come and try the all-inclusive adaptive game of rugby league.

All community members and interested players are welcome to attend this Come and Try Day to watch and learn how to play wheelchair rugby league. With the help of Griffith City Council and Intereach Griffith, CRRL have been connecting with members of the local community who may be interested in adaptive sports.

Wheelchair Rugby League is an all-inclusive game, where brothers, sisters, family friends, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, work colleagues, friends etc. can all play together on the same team and also compete against each other.

People of all abilities can play wheelchair rugby league – all genders, ages, and abilities – from non-regular wheelchair users to regular wheelchair users.

Participants who have power wheelchairs are also more than welcome to join in and play.

The session in Griffith will start from 9:30am this Saturday 19 March, with some basic skills of wheelchair rugby league, mini-games and game scenario activities. Towards the end of the session a full game will be facilitated.

CRRL are looking to create a local Griffith wheelchair rugby league competition, as well as one in Wagga Wagga.

It will be fantastic to seek the local talent in the Riverina to spark interest in our all-inclusive competition.
