Canberra Raiders Cup Round 1 Wrap

Round one of the Canberra Raiders Cup is in the books with the Rams, Bushrangers, Warriors and Bulldogs all starting the 2022 season with a win.

Woden Valley Rams 16 d Queanbeyan Blues 6

The Woden Valley Rams defeated the Queanbeyan Blues 16-6 at Phillip Oval on Saturday.

The Blues opened the scoring in the 11th minute after a nice scrum play set up Tyrell Bowen who scored the opening try.

However the Rams hit back in the 23rd minute after a beautiful harbour bridge pass set up a try for Rams winger Thomas Scrivener. 

The Blues led the Rams 6-4 at halftime with a missed conversion being the only difference.

It took until the 61st minute for the Rams to take the lead off the back of a second try by Scrivener.

The Rams secured their first win of the season after a brainstorming run by the Rams backrower who scored the game's final try in the 76th minute, giving the Rams a 16-6 win over the Blues.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 40 d Queanbeyan Roos 6

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers dominated the Queenbeyan Roos and secured themselves a 40-6 win at Greenway Oval.

It didn't take long for the Bushrangers to score their first try of the season after a nice scrum play put their fullback Damien Hayden over in the third minute. 

The Bushrangers continued to dominate the first half and scored a try on the final play of the half which put their lead out to 30 points.

The Roos tried to start a comeback when they scored the first try of the second half after some individual brilliance by Kaine Puggura .

However the Bushrangers regained the momentum and scored two tries in 5 minutes which all but sealed the match.

The Bushrangers won the match 40-6, making a statement in round one to the rest of the competition.

West Belconnen Warriors 33 d Gungahlin Bulls 30

The West Belconnen Warriors came back to defeat the Gungahlin Bulls 33-30 away from home at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval.

The Warriors came back from a 16 point deficit to beat the Bulls after winning the match late through a field goal and penalty goal on full time.

The Bulls jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first half before the Warriors hit back in the 29th minute.

A late try by Bulls winger Lucas Thomson gave the Bulls a 20-6 lead at halftime.

The Bulls led 30-18 with only 20 minutes remaining before the Warriors scored back to back tries to tie the game up at 30 all.

The Warriors took the lead for the first time in the match after a field goal put the Warriors up by one.

The Warriors then converted a penalty goal through five-eight Robert Roberts on the stroke of full time to secure a 33-30 win in round one.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 38 d Belconnen United Sharks 14

The Goulburn City Bulldogs defeated the Belconnen United Sharks 28-14 away from home in Bruce. 

The Bulldogs made their presence known early off the back of some bruising defence which forced the Sharks into touch off the kickoff giving them great field position to score the first try of the match.

The Bulldogs carried this momentum and were clearly the better side in the first half, running out to a 20-4 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs continued their dominance and led by as much as 28 points.

The Sharks crossed over twice in the second half but the Bulldogs never looked in danger of losing their lead.

The Bulldogs won the match 38-14 in an impressive round one showing.
