The Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield competition kicks off this weekend with two of the premier sides facing off in Yass Magpies and the Goulburn City Bulldogs to kickstart the season.
Yass Magpies v Goulburn City Bulldogs, Walker Park, 12pm Saturday 30th April
The KFS competition kicks off with a bang, with the joint minor premiers of the 2021 season facing off to start the year.
Both Yass and Goulburn finished on 23 points with a combined for and against of almost 600 points.
The two powerhouses faced off only the once last year with the Yass Magpies getting a big 22-4 win at Walker Park in round six.
The Magpies will be looking to do a repeat of last year when they take the field in-front of their home fans, while the Bulldogs will be out for revenge.
Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Woden Valley Rams, Greenway Oval, 10:45am Saturday 30th April
Tuggeranong will be one of five senior sides representing the mighty Bushrangers on Saturday afternoon when they take on rivals Woden in-front of their home fans.
The Rams will take the field with plenty of emotion, being the inaugural women's tackle side to don the blue, yellow and white.
The Bushrangers just snuck into the top four when the season was abruptly ended last year, winning five games, losing five and drawing twice.
The already established rivalry between these two sides only adds to the occasion of this round one matchup, and will sure to be a big clash for both teams.
Harden Worhawks v Queanbeyan Blues, McLean Oval, 11:00am Saturday 30th April
The Queanbeyan Blues will travel to Harden to take on the Worhawks to kickstart their 2022 campaign.
The Blues got the better of Harden last year in their two round matchups, defeating the Worhawks by a combined margin of 106 points.
Harden's defense will sure to have been a priority over the offseason and they will definitely be looking to tighten up the middle of the field.
The Blues finished in third spot last year, only five points behind joint-leaders Yass and Goulburn.
Queanbeyan will definitely be looking to go one further this season and play some finals football.
South Coast United v UC Stars, Mackay Park, 3:00pm Saturday 30th April
The South Coast Marlins will play their debut Katrina Fanning Shield match in-front of their home fans at 3pm at Mackay Park, Batemans Bay on Saturday.
This expansion of the competition is exciting for all teams as the KFS has continued to strengthen each year with talent and increased participation.
The UC Stars will be the first team to travel and play the new side, with a stacked roster of new and young talent ready for the 2022 season.
UC finished fifth in last year's KFS competition, with 3 wins, 5 losses and 3 draws.
This will be an interesting match to keep an eye on with both side's projection being unknown entering round one.
