An incredible 80 minute performance from the Blues put their rival Kangaroos away in a massive 64-10 win at Seiffert Oval in the Queanbeyan derby.
The Kangaroos came out the gates fast and found themselves on the attack early. But, a poorly timed pass was intercepted by Blues centre Ropata Doherty, who ran the field and scored under the sticks to open the scoring.
Captain-coach Terry Campese made no mistake, adding the two extras to take a commanding six-nil lead in the opening ten minutes.
The Blues capitalised on another Roos error, when Campese threw a harbour bridge pass over the top to find Jake Butler-Fleming who drew the opposing winger to put Doherty over for his second of the afternoon. Campese converted to extend the scores to 12-nil.
Campese attacked the Roos left-edge defence again, but this time found Roos winger Cade Woods who intercepted and ran the field. Blues fullback Mat Parsons tracked him down and forced the error to save the try.
The Roos bounced right back when halfback Lachlan Ingram gave some early ball to centre Temple Rupapera, who beat two defenders to score a great solo try. The conversion was unsuccessful, drawing the scores to 12-4 with 15 minutes to go.
The Blues began a scoring rampage, targetting the edges of the Roos defence and running riot.
Campese caught the defence lacking and dummied and broke the line, linking up with his fullback Parsons, who was ankle-tapped just metres from the line.
A quick play-the-ball forced the ball quickly down the short side where winger Bryce Lee finished in the corner. Campese nailed the conversion to extend the lead to 18-4.
The very next set, George Morseu made a break down the left-edge with some great footwork, but was later brought down.
Campese then kicked cross-field to link up with his centre Jake Butler-Fleming, who rose and finished in the opposite corner. Campese continued his perfect day with the boot, adding the extra's to take the score to 24-6.
Blues continued their try-scoring rampage through some beautiful ad-lib footy, where the Blues continued to keep the ball alive through multiple offloads.
Interchange forward Bradley Buckley stormed onto the ball to score untouched under the sticks to top off an incredible half of footy from the Blues, taking the scores to 30-6 at halftime.
The Roos didn't learn from their mistakes in the first half, conceding an error which led to a try in the opening five minutes of the second period.
Mathew Parsons threw a nice long ball which tipped on to Ropata Doherty who finished a miraculous try in the corner to score his hatrick. Campese missed his first conversion of the afternoon, forcing the scores to 34-4 to Blues.
Campese went to the sidelines immeadiately after, where dummy-half Josh Mitchell took over the kicking duties.
The Roos goal-line defence continued to be a liability deep into the second half, where Buckley palmed off multiple defenders to link-up with his backrower Cyprian Ale who crashed over for his first of the afternoon. Conversion was successful, bringing the scores to 40-4
Blues lock-forward Brent Lamb beat some ordinary defence to break the line, draw the fullback, and put Mathew Parsons over for a well-deserved four-pointer. Mitchell converted to extend the score to 46-4.
Charlie Woolford finished off the perfect set after points, nailing a 40/20 to continue the Blues relentless attack.
Two plays later, Woolford dropped his centre Jake Butler-Fleming who beat three defenders to score his second of the afternoon. Mitchell brought the score up to 50-4 with a successful conversion.
Blues halfback Charlie Woolford joined the tryscorers list, when he caught the defence off-guard and dove over from first receiver. The conversion was missed, extending the score to 54-4 with just over ten minutes remaining.
George Morseu caught a beautiful cut-out ball and showed some incredible speed down the left-edge to find the tryline. Mitchell missed the conversion from the sideline to make the score 58-4 with five minutes left.
Campese gave Josh Mitchell an early shower by checking back into the game. He immeadiately had an impact, holding up the defence and putting Butler-Fleming over for his third of the afternoon. Campese extended the lead to bring up the total to 64-4.
The Roos received a consolation try right on fulltime through a charge-down from backrower Michael Cullen who scored under the posts. The try was converted to bring the final score to 64-10.
