NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 13 Preview

The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides return to GIO Stadium for a second consecutive week this Sunday to take on the Newtown Jets and Cronulla Sharks.

Both teams will be looking to get back into the winners circle after disappointing losses against the Parramatta Eels last Sunday afternoon.

For the Raiders’ NSW Cup side, there are plenty of changes to the lineup with Corey Harawira-Naera, Matt Frawley and Trey Mooney being called up into the NRL team for their clash against the Roosters.

Brad Schneider will play his first game this season in the NSW Cup and will partner Joshua James in the halves, who hasn’t played since round eight.

It will be a tough match for the Raiders as they face the second placed Jets, who are coming off the back of a 21-all draw against the Western Suburbs Magpies last weekend.

However, Canberra will come into the game hungry to right their wrongs after a tight 30-28 loss at the hands of the Eels in round 12.

This meeting will be their second of the season as both sides clashed at Henson Park back in round one where Newtown came out on top 36-22.

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg game against the Sharks will be the first of three games at GIO Stadium on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 12.05pm.

The side will be looking to bounce back after being defeated by the Eels 40-0 last weekend.

In a boost for the team, Sione Vuki returns to the starting lineup at number six, bringing some vital NSW Cup experience into the Jersey Flegg side.

The Raiders currently sit in eighth position with four wins and six losses but remain just one win behind their opponent Cronulla on the ladder.
