The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders will welcome exciting outside back Sione Finau from the beginning of the 2026 season on a three-year deal.
Finau debuted in 2024 for the St George Illawarra Dragons, where he has since played seven NRL matches and scored four tries in the top grade.
He said he’s looking forward to joining the Raiders in 2026.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity, the door has been opened up and I’m very grateful,” said Finau. “I feel I’ve adapted to the speed and fit in really well so far in first grade and I think Canberra saw that attribute.”
The versatile 23-year-old has played on the wing in each of his NRL appearances, though he says he is eager to strive for a spot at centre in 2026.
“I was more-so interested in probably giving centre a crack but I’m happy wherever they put me. More so in that centre or wing spot, or anywhere in the back 5.”
Finau will reunite with his close friend Savelio Tamale at the Raiders as the incoming back admits the winger was also a strong influence in his decision to sign.
“Well he’s been my best mate since 2022 so seeing him move here and be successful, that kind of influenced my decision.”
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says the addition of the youngster will undoubtedly bolster the Raiders squad moving forward.
"We're really looking forward to having Sione join us in 2026. He's a very talented outside back who can cover several positions and has shown plenty of promise in his limited first-grade appearances so far."
"We've been in discussions with Sione for a few weeks now and his manager Michael Cincotta has been great to deal with and has been upfront during the process allowing us to work on doing what's best for Sione and the club."
"We will let Sione finish his time with the Dragons and look forward to him joining the squad in the pre-season."
