Raiders Foundation

Since 1982 The Canberra Raiders have developed a proud history in the region and become an important part of the community.

We are deeply passionate about the success on the field and the positive effect we can have off the field," Head Coach Ricky Stuart.

The Raiders Foundation was established in 2019 in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation and ensures the ongoing success of the club driving growth both on and off the field.

The Raiders Foundation is fully funded by our generous donors and benefactors. This foundation gives our loyal members, fans and supporters a chance to directly contribute to the club and play a significant role in the sustained success of the emerging, current and future raiders both on and off the field.

The following is a short video on the Raiders Foundation.

Funded Programs and Projects

Since the Raiders Foundation was established, it has funded the following projects and programs:

  • The Don Furner Senior NSW Country Scholarship Program
  • Invested in infrastructure improvements at Raiders Centre in Braddon
  • Funded a regional country internship position
  • Invested in digital software to showcase our history in the foyer of the Raiders Centre in Braddon
  • Purchased a wheelchair transport trailer as part of the Rolling Raiders Wheelchair Rugby League program

As we continue to go forward the Raiders Foundation’s focus is to raise funds for the Raiders’ inaugural NRL Women’s (NRLW) team that will enter the competition in 2023. The money raised will provide financial support to our women’s program, by establishing a NRLW academy and scholarship program, purchasing required equipment and the development of coaching and associated support staff.

Other initiatives the foundation is focused on investing in is the development of a Raiders Academy system in the ACT/regional NSW and to deliver a community based Inclusive Program.

DON FURNER SENIOR NSW COUNTRY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

In 2021 the Raiders Foundation launched the Don Furner Senior Scholarship Program to honour and acknowledge the tremendous contribution of our inaugural Head Coach who passed away on 24 February 2020. Don Furner Senior had a strong association with Country NSW having been born in Condobolin and through his playing and coaching days in Junee and Queanbeyan. As Canberra Raiders Historian wrote in Absolutely Bleeding Green – The Raiders Story, “Don Furner Senior’s extraordinary legacy will forever have a place deep in the hearts of all Raiders fans.”

The scholarship provided by the Raiders Foundation will cover such items as living expenses, education and training fees, football equipment and transport costs to attend football development programs, carnivals, and camps.

Michael Asomua from Griffith, NSW was the inaugural recipient of the 2021 scholarship and Noah Martin from Eden, NSW was the 2022 recipient of the scholarship.

The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) was established by the Australian Government in 1986, after the Australian Sports Commission Act 1985 called for the creation of a company to support the development of sport in Australia. Their mission is to raise money for Australian sport. Donors complete an ASF donation form, allowing donors to use ASF’s tax deductible status to claim tax relief for any donation of $2 or more, then ASF grant these monies raised to the nominated project.

Acknowledgement of Country
