The Canberra Raiders have continued to secure the future of their squad, with NYC star Brenko Lee re-signing with the club until the end of the 2016 season.

Brenko Lee, 18, is the cousin of Raiders NRL winger Edrick Lee who has also re-signed with the Raiders long term and is part of the clubs long standing recruitment strategy and alliance with Queensland Cup club Souths Logan.

Brenko was a standout for the Raiders NYC team in 2013 and is still eligible to play in the competition for a further two seasons, and the Raiders wanted to make sure they secured his future at the club by upgrading and extending his current deal adding two additional seasons.

After putting pen to paper Brenko said the next step for him was to make sure he continued his development with the club and he hoped to break into the Raiders NRL team after continuing his good form with the NYC team.

Im really excited about signing a new contract with the Raiders as they brought me down to Canberra and gave me an opportunity to play for the SG Ball and NYC teams and hopefully I can now work hard and take the next step into the NRL team as well, Lee said. Its great to have Edrick here at the club as well and it would be a proud moment for our family if I was able to play alongside him one day for the Raiders in the NRL.

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the signing of Brenko Lee once again demonstrated the faith the Raiders have in their development systems and the strong ties to the Logan area in Queensland.

Brenko is another example of a player who the Raiders discovered, developed and were hoping he continues his development into the NRL team, Furner said. We have a great partnership with the Souths Logan club when it comes to junior development and Brenko is another example of this.

The Raiders are keen to continue the strategy of identifying and developing our own talent providing we can see some improvements in the salary cap which will allow us to gain some exemptions for developing our own players, he said. If this part of the salary cap isnt rectified we would have to seriously consider this strategy long term and re-evaluate how we look at our recruitment and development.

For now though were thrilled to continue to unearth and develop talent like Brenko Lee.
