Raiders legend Alan Tongue helped the Raiders start the NRL’s new 2014 membership race this morning, by signing up his four week old daughter Lola for a 2014 Canberra Raiders membership.

With the help of Lola’s big brother Gem and Raiders rising star Jack Wighton, Alan and Lola stopped into Raiders HQ this morning and signed up Lola for a Raiders junior membership.

Tongue said all of his family were Raiders members and said he was proud to add another member to the Raiders family.

“Lola is now four weeks old and as I said to Jack Wighton this morning you are never too young to become a Raiders member,” Tongue said. “All of my family are members of the Raiders and we can’t wait to get out to GIO Stadium in a few weeks’ time and watch the first home game.”

Jack Wighton helped present Lola with her first Raiders jersey and said he’s excited about the Raiders making an impact in the membership race.

“With some help from Gem Tongue I’m very honoured to be able to present Lola with her first Raiders jersey,” Wighton said. “Her dad is a legend of the club and he’s still very passionate about the team. It was great to have him here today to help us with the NRL membership race.”

The Raiders currently sit at around 6,300 members for the 2014 season and hope to eclipse last year’s mark of 8898. You can become a Raiders member by visiting their membership website www.weareraiders.com.au

For the first time, NRL Club members will have the opportunity to decide how to spend the winnings from two club membership races, with a prize pool of $400,000.

There will be two Club Member Races based on attracting the most new members from the start of the race to the end of the race.

There will be a total prize pool of $200,000 across each race, consisting of $100,000 in cash and $100,000 in advertising grants.

In the first race, prize money will be offered to the three clubs with the greatest increase in their total membership number by Tuesday 20 May.

Race two will reward the top three clubs with the greatest percentage increase in their total membership number, during the same period.
