Over 170 Junior Rugby League and Touch Football players will converge onto GIO Stadium this Saturday afternoon, as part of the Huawei junior club relay.

Canberra Raiders Major Sponsor Huawei is supporting the annual junior club recognition round at GIO Stadium this weekend, when the Raiders take on the Knights on Saturday afternoon.

The junior club recognition round focusses on the contribution made annually by junior rugby league clubs in the ACT region and will be highlighted at halftime by a huge junior club relay involving a team from every junior club in the Canberra Region Rugby League, as well as a team from ACT Touch.

The relay will offer $1000 prize money, with the race happening at halftime of the Raiders v Knights match at GIO Stadium. Each junior team will have 11 members, with one person from each age group represented from under 6’s through to under 16’s.

Raiders CEO Don Furner said it was important for the Raiders to recognise their grass roots participants and said it was fantastic to have the support of the clubs Major Sponsor Huawei.

“The Raiders have a proud tradition and association with grass roots rugby league in the ACT region and we are one of the few NRL clubs which continue to administer our own local competitions at a junior and senior level,” Furner said. “Having a dedicated round to recognise our junior clubs is important to us and we thank Huawei for joining us in celebrating the contribution these clubs make to making rugby league a success in our region.”

Huawei Corporate Affairs Director, Jeremy Mitchell said the company was proud to support such a great initiative.

“Junior clubs hold the future of the game in their hands. It’s important to recognise and support the great work they do for the game and their local communities.”
