Last week on Wednesday 30th of July, the ACT Girls Rugby League team competed in the NSW Rugby League All Schools for the second consecutive year.

Currently, Canberra Region Junior Rugby League has five teams participating in the U17 Girls competition.

There was a great amount of interest shown at the trials with a large number of girls’ trialling for the 18 spots available on the 2014 team. The players displayed a lot of talent and skill which made selections very difficult.

The girls had an early start on the day of the carnival but were all enthusiastic and ready to give it their best shot.  They were placed in a competitive pool of teams which included Penrith, Cronulla, Balmain and the eventual winners of the tournament Canterbury.

The girls showcased a large amount of talent on the day and proved   themselves to be an extremely competitive side throughout the carnival.  The girls finished the day with 2 outstanding wins and 2 close losses, including a tough game against Canterbury who only just came away with the win and went on to become the winners of the 2014 Girls All Schools Competition.

Due to the increasing number of girls playing rugby league and the success of the Canberra Region Junior Rugby League Girls competition, Girls Rugby League within the ACT will continue to prosper.
