The Raiders have received a huge boost on the eve of their final home match of the 2014 season, with local junior Jarrod Croker re-signing with the club until the end of the 2017 season.

Croker was on contract for 2015, but his continued form and leadership qualities have seen the club lock him away for a further two seasons.

Despite the Raiders position on the ladder, Croker has had a remarkable season in 2014 and sits just one try behind Semi Radradra for the NRL’s top try scorer and eight points behind Jonathan Thurston for the NRL’s top point scorer this season.

Croker said he’s ecstatic to be remaining at the team he loves and said he was confident the whole club was heading in the right direction for the future.

“I’m very excited to be remaining at the club where I made my debut and we’re I’ve been able to start and build on my NRL career,” Croker said. “Canberra is a place I love and where I want to play my football and I believe we have a bright future ahead of us with our playing roster and coaching staff led by Ricky Stuart.”

Seen as a leader among the playing group at just 23, Croker said it’s been a pleasure captaining the side over the past three games and said he had ambitions to continue the role in the future.

“Being named Captain for the few games is a huge honour and I’ve enjoyed leading the team out over the past couple of weeks.”

Croker said his support network on and off the field was the driving force behind his success and thanked everyone who has helped him reach his goals in his career so far.

“I want to thank all of my family, friends, teammates and the Raiders members and family for their continued support and I look forward to seeing a big crowd at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night, particularly to farewell a legend of the game like Brett White.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of Croker was a huge one for the club and Croker had the potential to go on and be one of the legends of the Raiders.

“Jarrod is a pleasure to have at the club both on and off the field and we see him as a leader who can help take us forward into the future,” Furner said. “He’s another local junior who has committed to the club long term and his form over the past few seasons makes him a valuable player for us here at the Raiders.

“His record at just 23 years of age of playing close to 150 matches and scoring almost 900 points is remarkable and he has the potential to break all of our clubs records.

“The club congratulates Jarrod on the new deal and we look forward to him continuing his great form for the Raiders over the next few seasons.”
