Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 3 Preview

The match of round three in the Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup will see the undefeated Woden Valley Rams head to Gungahlin Enclosed Oval to face the Bulls.

Despite winning their two matches against Belconnen Sharks and Yass Magpies by a combined 42 points, the Rams enter the match sitting in third position, and Ashley Barnes’ side will be looking to make it three wins from three to start the season. The Bulls meanwhile will be looking to notch their second-straight win after beating Tuggeranong by 34 points in round two.

After suffering that loss last week, things don’t get any easier for the eighth-placed Bushrangers as they host the rampant Queanbeyan Blues at Greenway. Simon Woolford’s Blues have started the season with two straight wins and already look to be in title-winning form, smashing the cross-town rival Roos 56-0 last start as halves Eko Malu and Luke Branighan ran riot.

The Kangaroos will need to regroup from that thrashing in a hurry as they travel to West Belconnen to play the undefeated Warriors. After notching wins over the Sharks and Bulldogs in the opening two rounds, Troy Thompson’s Warriors will be looking to go three from three to keep the pressure on the Blues at the top of the table.

Finally, the Yass Magpies come off the bye to host Goulburn Bulldogs at Walker Park. After going down 36-18 to the Rams in round one, the Magpies will be keen to secure their first win since returning to the top grade, while the Bulldogs will be looking to recover from last weekend’s loss to West Belconnen.

After two straight losses, the bottom-placed Belconnen Sharks have the bye.
