Canberra Raiders fullback Jack Wighton said it will be a special occasion when the club partakes in the NRL Indigenous Round this weekend.

"It's going to be a great weekend," Wighton said. "Seeing all the team's [Indigenous] jumpers in the photos the other day was really exciting."

When asked how important it was to him to ensure the Indigenous Round stays in the NRL, Wighton was adamant in his response.

"I don't think [the Indigenous Round] is going anywhere. It's good for the game and that's all that comes out of it, goodness - so I think it will stay around for a long time," Wighton said.

With the team set to face the Newcastle Knights this weekend, the fullback is wary of a Knights side who have showed plenty of fight in recent battles between the two sides.

"They turn up full of energy when they face us," Wighton said. "It's always a game we are up for too. It'll be a tough clash and we definitely won't win it early in the game so we are going to have to fix the little things we've been letting ourselves down on to [win the match]."
