Josh Hodgson is optimistic that he will recover in time to face the St George Illawarra Dragons next Friday night at GIO Stadium.

Speaking at the Raiders signing session at ActewAGL, the English international Hooker was asked if his calf strain would heal up in time for the Raiders next game.

"It was fine when I was jogging around but when there was any change of direction or pace it pulled up a bit sore," Hodgson said.

"If I pushed myself then it would be a lot worse so it wasn't worth the risk and hopefully with the bye coming up this week it should be ok for the next game but if not then ill be back for the match against the Storm the following week."

"I don't like watching from the sidelines but I have to concentrate on getting it right to return."
