Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup Round 5 Preview

Match of the Round
Tuggeranong Bushrangers vs West Belconnen Warriors – 3pm, Sunday 6 May at Greenway / Live Stream

Round 5 sees a big match of the round with a top of the table clash between the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and the West Belconnen Warriors.

The Bushrangers are heading into the clash off the back of a 20-14 win over the Yass Magpies in round 4.

Although both outfits are undefeated so far this season, Tuggeranong centre David Faaeteete has said his side won't be too focused on the Warriors.

"We're not really focusing on Westies," Faaeteete said. "We're just focused on our own team and what we need to do."

The West Belconnen Warriors took down the Woden Valley Rams 32-22 in round 4 and will be confident of taking down the Bushrangers.

Gungahlin Bulls vs Belconnen United Sharks – 3pm, Sunday 6 May at Gungahlin Enclosed

Both of these sides are coming into this clash without a win this season and will be hopeful of kick starting their season this weekend.

The Bulls come off a 36-16 battering against the Queanbeyan Blues in round 4 and are anchored to the bottom of the ladder with four losses.

The Sharks are coming off the bye and are yet to register a win in their three clashes this year and sit second last on the ladder with the bye being their only two points this season.

Both teams will be looking to tighten up their defence this weekend and the team that does will go a long way to winning this one.

Queanbeyan Blues vs Woden Valley Rams – 3pm, Sunday 6 May at Seiffert Oval

The Queanbeyan Blues host the Woden Valley Rams hoping to maintain pressure on the top two with a win.

The Blues come into round 5 following a 20-point win over the Gungahlin Bulls and sit in third position with six competition points.

The Woden Valley Rams are languishing in seventh position with one win and are coming off a 10-point defeat at the hands of the top of the table Warriors in round 4.

Coming off two dominant wins, the Blues will be aiming to heap more misery on the Rams who need to win to stay in touch with the top four.

Yass Magpies vs Queanbeyan Kangaroos – 3pm, Sunday 6 May at Walker Park

Fifth place hosts fourth when the Yass Magpies face off against the Queanbeyan Kangaroos on Sunday.

The Magpies are coming off a tight loss to the undefeated Bushrangers in round 4 and both of their defeats have been by six points or less.

The Kangaroos enter round five off the back of a comprehensive 44-12 win over the Goulburn Bulldogs last weekend.

Two wins apiece from the opening four rounds with the Kangaroos only ahead thanks to the bye, expect these sides to contest a close encounter this Sunday to grab their third win.
