Local women to play at GIO Stadium this Friday

Canberra Region Rugby League are pleased to announce that the Katrina Fanning Shield match, Valley Dragons v Goulburn will be played at GIO Stadium this coming Friday evening, 25 May 2018, following the Canberra Raiders NRL match.

CRRL General Manager Mark Vergano said that he was excited for this official CRRL women's competition fixture to be the first of its kind.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for women from these two teams to play on the big stage at GIO Stadium after the Canberra Raiders," Vergano said. "It's a moment that they will never forget."

The announcement of the Katrina Fanning Shield match comes after two Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup matches were played at GIO Stadium earlier in the season.

"It is great that the Canberra Raiders are so invested in grassroots rugby league and want to promote our local female and male participants," Vergano said.

Friday's women's match is scheduled for an 8.10pm kick-off, subject to the earlier NRL match operations running on time.
