Raiders forward Elliott Whitehead has opened up on living with current Raiders and international teammate John Bateman as he helps the former Bradford Junior settle into life in Canberra.

Whitehead and Bateman are close friends from their time together at Bradford Bulls in the Super League and the 29 year old has given an insight into what the former Wigan Warriors player is like.

"John's very competitive, if you've watched him play in the Super League and in international matches he never wants to lose, he's a tough kid," Whitehead said.

"He's very professional, he comes home with me and does all his recovery. He's lost a little bit of weight due to the heat in Canberra but he's eaten a lot out of my fridge and he's not putting anything back in so ill have to have a word to him about that!"

"It's only his second week in and he's found his own place already which isn't too far from mine so ill be seeing him a lot more which is good.

Whitehead praised the impact that both John Bateman and Ryan Sutton have made at the Club following their arrival from the Super League.

"It's great having another two guys who can understand me and I can understand them so that always makes it a bit easier around the dressing room."

"They have both settled in really well and are making a great impact around the training ground as well."
