Round 5 Junior Representative Wrap

It was a tough weekend in all three grades as we passed the halfway mark of the Junior Representative regular season.

S.G. Ball Cup

St George-Illawarra Dragons 24 (Tries: D Collins 2, N Wrathall, D Purcell; Goals: S Psiroukis 4) d Canberra Raiders 10 (Tries: T Croker, M Kaho; Goals: B Robertson)

After enjoying the bye the previous week, the Raiders succumbed to 14 point defeat at the hands of the Dragons.

Thomas Croker and Manase Kaho scored the two tries for the Raiders but a double to Dragons lock Dallas Collins helped St George on their way.

The loss sees the Raiders drop out of the top eight on for and against and into ninth place.

However, the Raiders have the same number of competition points as the seventh placed Cronulla Sharks.

Tarsha Gale Cup

St George-Illawarra Dragons 54 (Tries: M Swann 3, S Naitokatoka 2, A Tohi-Hiku 2, H Gatt, H Herlihy, T Naividi, E Rainima; Goals: S Naitokatoka 5) d Canberra Raiders 14 (Tries: S Pope, Z Waihape, T Hinch; Goals: Z Waihape)

The Raiders’ two-match winning streak came to a halt as the Dragons claimed victory at Mascot Oval on Saturday.

Shanae Pope, Zali Waihape and Tarnayar Hinch all scored tries for the Green Machine but a hattrick to Mareva Swann helped the Dragons claim a 40 point win.

The Raiders sit in seventh place on the ladder and will now prepare to play the ninth placed Sharks.

Harold Matthews Cup

St George-Illawarra Dragons 26 (Tries: J Sly, D Samani, J Samrani, C Navale, K Douglas; Goals: T Flynn 3) d Canberra Raiders 12 (Tries: H Alesi, J Hillier; Goals: M Stewart 2)

The Raiders sit two competition points outside the top eight after they went down to the Dragons at Mascot Oval.

Henry Alesi and Jack Hillier scored tries for the Raiders but it wasn’t enough as the Dragons scored five tries on their way to victory.

The Raiders will play the Western Suburb Magpies next weekend as they continue to fight for a finals place.
