The Canberra Raiders narrowly fell to the South Sydney Rabbitohs 16-12 in a highly exhilarating contest at GIO Stadium.

Overall the visitors had the majority of possession with 52%. Both sides conjured up impressive completion rates. The Raiders completed 32/38 of their sets (84%) while the Rabbitohs were able to complete 31/37 of their sets (84%).

In attack, Ricky Stuart’s side ran for over 1592 metres from 181 runs while Wayne Bennett’s team ran for over 1460 metres from 173 runs.

South Sydney completed seven offloads and three line-breaks while Canberra completed four offloads and two line-breaks.

In defence, the green machine was slightly busier than their opponents as they completed 340 tackles compared to 336. The Rabbitohs missed more tackles with 31 compared to 23.

The visitors conceded eight penalties while the home side only conceded six. Both sides made a total of seven errors each.

Individual statistics:

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad contributed with the most metres for the green machine with 181. Josh Papalii was next in line with 164 while Michael Oldfield was next best with 143.

Nick Cotric made a total of six tackle breaks while Hudson Young and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad made four each.

The English continue to lead the way in the tackle count with Elliott Whitehead making the most with 43. He was closely followed by Ryan Sutton on 42 while Josh Hodgson made 39.
