Goulburn spoil Yass' celebrations

The Goulburn Workers Bulldogs have upset the Yass Magpies’ celebrations with a massive 62-10 win at Walker Park on Saturday.

The Bulldogs had nine different try scores on a day celebrating the 100th season of the Magpies. Dillon Rota scored a hat-trick and Mitch Cornish scored a double in the huge win.

Goulburn got off to an early start with halfback Nick Cornish stepping through the Magpies line to score his first try.

Two minutes later, brother Mitch Cornish showed his ability to get to the line with a try of his own. He then provided his side with another score ten minutes later, scoring a double in the first half.

Goulburn kept on extending their lead in the first half after Iziah Tittor broke past the Yass defenders to score the fourth of the match.

Just before halftime, Matthew Worboys scored his first of the match and the fifth for the Bulldogs. As the halftime siren sounded Goulburn ran into the sheds with a 28-0 lead over Yass.

Goulburn came out strong in the second half, with the three Cornish brothers linking up to get the ball to winger Patrick Cooke for his first try of the day.

A mistake from the Magpies allowed Bulldogs’ Dillon Rota to intercept the offload and stretch his legs to run 90 metres and score his first.

The Bulldogs kept pushing the lead in the second half after Steven Cummins dove into the corner to score.

Yass finally broke the scoring streak with their first of the game, coming after Brendon Housden scored in the corner in front of the home crowd.

A few minutes later the try scorer Housden was penalised for a shoulder charge, giving the Bulldogs a chance to score. Rota took his chance and scored his second for the day in the corner.

Goulburn put themselves above 50 points after forward Connor Brebner scored near the posts.

With two earlier in the half, Rota added another try to his name with another in the right corner giving him a hat-trick for the day.

After 70 minutes, the final Cornish brother, Tyler, got his first for the day putting his team above 60 points for the match.

With three minutes to go, Ben Davis scored a constellation try for the Magpies and the final for the day.
