Valley Dragons secure Grand Final place

The Valley Dragons have booked their place in the Grand Final after defeating the Queanbeyan Blues 26-10 at Seiffert Oval.

The Blues opened the scoring in the opening minutes as Taylor Thorpe received a cutout pass from Jacinta Williams to cross over the line out wide.

Unfortunately for the Blues, Thorpe had to be assisted off the field shortly afterwards, causing a reshuffle in the Queanbeyan backline.

The Valley Dragons started to enjoy good field position and moved the ball to the right which allowed Chloe Smith to score out wide.

The Dragons continued to pile on the pressure and with halftime looming Elissa Blowes scored under the posts.

Payge-Louise Condon had a chance just before the break as she danced her way through the defensive line before a brilliant one on one tackle prevented the try. Williams had a chance from a quick play the ball but a knock on ensured that the Dragons took a 10-6 lead at the break.

The Dragons continued to control the middle of the field and Rosaline Aumale barged her way over to extend her side’s lead.

Queanbeyan fought their way back into the match and started to enjoy good field position for the first time since their opening try. The pressure finally told as Williams sent Jennifer Ruiz through for a try out wide.

Aumale scored her second try of the evening late on while Crystal Papalii also scored as the Dragons sealed the win and booked their place in the Grand Final for the first time.
