Nagas to coach Woden in 2020

The Woden Valley Rams have announced Ken Nagas as Head Coach for the 2020 season.

The 1994 NRL Premiership winner with the Canberra Raiders replaces Lincoln Withers, who was unable to commit to coaching next season due to work and family commitments.

Nagas was an assistant to Withers throughout the year and has previously had experience as an assistant for the Canberra Raiders U20’s side.

Nagas said he was excited by the opportunity to coach the 2018 Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup Premiers.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Nagas said. “It should be fun, very challenging but I’ve also had my own ideas on what I want as a head coach and I get to do that.

“It’s the first time I’ll have a head coaching role. I’ve been an assistant coach on and off for the last ten years so I’m looking forward to it, it should be an interesting challenge.”

Woden Valley Rams President Steve Hicks said the club are extremely grateful for Withers’ contribution to the club over the past two seasons and hope to have him involved with the club for years to come.

“We owe Lincoln a huge debt of gratitude,” Hicks said. “Firstly, for agreeing to play with us in 2018 and helping deliver our first premiership in 22 years and secondly for coaching us in 2019.

“When Lincoln was unable to commit to the 2020 season, Ken was the natural replacement having been involved with the club as an assistant this year.

“The Withers family is a third generation Rams family with Lincoln’s dad Trevor playing and coaching the club, while Lincoln’s son Jacob currently plays Under 19’s and Reserve Grade. We certainly hope to have Lincoln involved with the Rams for years to come.”
