Junior Reps Round 6 Preview

Round six of the Harold Matthews Cup kicks off this weekend, with the Canberra Raiders set to take on the Newcastle Knights away in Cessnock.

After a disappointing loss at home last weekend against the Sharks, the Raiders are looking to minimise their errors this week and are eager to walk away with a win according to coach David Small.

“Last week, [the Sharks] didn’t win the game, we gave it to them,” Small said. “The boys know now just how costly it can be to be making those kinds of errors and that’s what we will be improving on. It’s not so much the error count, but where we’re giving them away.

“After last week’s game they’ve seen how much you pay for it when you hand the ball over inside your own half.

“These boys are only young, some only 14, so they’re all still learning their craft”

The Knights have proven they’ll be tough competition to come up against. They’re coming off a big win against the Dragons in round five where they won 52-10.

“They had a really good win against the Dragons last week,” Small said. “A bit like us, the Knights aren’t overly big, but they like to play fast. We just have to go in with the right attitude or we could be in a bit of trouble.”

Raiders are currently sitting in seventh place, closely trailing this week’s opposition who sit in fifth.
