Top 5 wins at Campbelltown Stadium

The NRL announced on Tuesday that until Round 9, the Raiders will call Campbelltown Stadium home. It is a stadium that has seen some memorable wins from the Raiders so let’s take a look at our picks for the top five wins at Campbelltown Stadium.

5. 1987, Round 21 v Western Suburbs, 30-12

Dean Lance captained the Canberra Raiders and led by example as they defeated Western Suburbs 30-12 to claim their first win in Campbelltown. Laurie Daley scored two tries while Gary Belcher kicked five from seven from the boot.

4. 1998, Round 22 v Western Suburbs, 22-0

The green machine held the Magpies scoreless at Campbelltown Stadium in what was a dominant display by Mal Meninga’s troops. The Raiders try scorers on that day were David Boyle, Brandon Costin, Ruben Wiki and Simon Woolford while David Furner kicked three from four with the boot. Current head coach Ricky Stuart partnered his Assistant Coach Andrew McFadden in the halves that day.

3. 1999, Round 22 v Western Suburbs, 64-16

The corresponding fixture a year later again proved to be a happy one for the Raiders as they completely trounced Western Suburbs 64-16. Current Assistant Coach Andrew McFadden partnered Laurie Daley in the halves and scored three tries while Damian Kennedy and Brett Mullins grabbed two each. David Furner, Rod Jensen, Rod Maybon and Mark McLinden rounded out the try scorers list while Luke Williamson kicked eight from 12 with the shoe.

2. 2006, Round 23 v Wests Tigers, 19-18

A famous win which broke a six-year hoodoo for the Raiders at Campbelltown. The win was the green machine’s second win in golden point over the Tigers for the 2006 season after a Clinton Schifcofske penalty goal in the 84th minute sealed a 20-18 win in Round 19. With scores locked at 19 all with 30 seconds left on the clock, Todd Carney stepped up to be the hero as he drilled a field goal from over 40 metres out which looked like it had barely got off the ground. Phil Graham, Adam Mogg and Alan Tongue were the try scorers on the day for the Raiders while Clinton Schifcofske kicked three from three with the boot.

1. 2018, Round 15 v Wests Tigers, 48-12

With the Raiders trying to keep chase with the top eight they headed to Campbelltown Stadium desperately needing the two points. The Raiders were trailing early on, enter Josh Hodgson. The Raiders hooker made his return from an ACL injury in this match and inspired the Raiders from the interchange as he came on and helped put the Tigers to the sword throughout the second half as Ricky Stuart’s side triumphed 48-12. The Raiders try scorers on the day were Joseph Leilua (2), Joe Tapine (2), Blake Austin, Liam Knight, Michael Oldfield, Josh Papalii and Nick Cotric while Jarrod Croker kicked six from nine with the boot.
