Specsavers Katrina Fanning Shield 2020 Round 2 Wrap

Round two action in the Katrina Fanning Shield saw the Queanbeyan Blues and Bushpies notch up their second straight wins.

Queanbeyan Blues 44 (Tries: S Wood 4, A Brooks 2, K Haridemos, J Williams; Goals: S Wood 6) d Tuggeranong Buffaloes 4 (Try: K Kennedy)

The Queanbeyan Blues made it two wins from two after defeating the Tuggeranong Buffaloes 44-4 at Seiffert Oval on Saturday.

The Blues started fast, with halfback Samantha Wood crossing the tryline off the back of a run up the middle from Natasha Brunhuber.

The Blues extended their lead to 8-0 when winger Alanna Brooks scored off a scrum play. Wood scored her second four-pointer the next set, converting her own try to give the Blues a 14-0 lead.

Wood got her hat-trick just before half-time, fighting her way through a couple of Buffaloes defenders to get the ball down. She converted to give her team a 20-0 lead at the halftime break.

Wood started the second half right where she left off, executing a perfect run around play to cross for her fourth try of the game.

The Buffaloes managed to get a repeat set on the Blues tryline, and they scored the next set, courtesy of Kiara Kennedy. Tuggerangong nearly had their second try of the game but dropped the ball over the tryline.

Queanbeyan made them pay, with five-eighth Jacinta Williams making a break down the sideline and passing it to Brooks to grab her second. Wood kicked the conversion to extend the Blues lead to 32-4.

The Buffaloes had a couple of repeat sets on the Blues tryline but they were unable to crack the home side’s defence again. Williams and fullback Krysytana Haridemos both scored in the final few minutes, with Wood converting both tries.

The win sees the Blues finish round two on top of the ladder.

Bushpies 32 (Tries: J Teivonen, K McLellan, E Winbank, N Ngan-Woo, S Afele, J Cooke, K Huey; Goals: E Ernst 2) d West Belconnen 0

The Bushpies continued their strong start to the season with a 32-0 win over West Belconnen at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Saturday.

Seven different try-scorers crossed for the Bushpies, showing their attacking ability across the park.

The game was called off early due to an ambulance call.

The Bushpies take on the Queanbeyan Blues next weekend in a top of the table clash, while West Belconnen face the Tuggeranong Buffaloes
