The Raiders Under 20’s continued their strong start to the season with a 38-12 win over the Queanbeyan Blues at Seiffert Oval on Saturday.
Once again a strong final quarter sealed the win for the Raiders, with three tries in the final five minutes.
The Raiders U20’s were first on the scoreboard after a cutout pass from hooker Mitch Souter sent winger Brigham Moeakiola over the tryline.
Queanbeyan got their first points on the board in the second quarter, when a grubber kick from Terry Campese was gathered by fullback Matthew Parsons to score. Campese converted the try to give his side a 6-4 lead.
The Raiders bounced back a few minutes later, after a kick from Jordan Williams rebounded off the goalpost and fell straight into the hands of Raiders centre Jeremiah Simbiken, who grounded the ball for a try. Joe Roberts kicked the conversion to put his side back ahead 10-6.
But the Blues hit back just before half time courtesy of Blues winger Linitoni Fifita, with Campese converting to bring the score to 12-10 at half-time.
The Raiders U20’s came out firing after the break, with Moeakiola getting his second try of the afternoon and Roberts adding the two points.
The visiting side jumped to a eight point lead shortly after when Josh Thompson dived over the tryline.
Queanbeyan fought hard to get back into the game, but the Raiders proved too good, with three late tries to Temple Beauchamp, Souter and Roberts sealing the win.
